Magnetic Sheets

- Air of Thoughts - is based on "Skin of Air" prototype, an air blowing instrument for rhythm sensing and creation, where rhythms can be heard, seen or pressure felt. "Skin of Air" has two auras: The silent one, where the body becomes the ear, pointing to new sensoperceptual experiences. And the noisy one, where the ear is enjoying the sound of the formative power of air on our bodies.

The instruments was created by Odysseas Klissouras during the EASTN residency program (http://www.eastn.eu/EASTNPiece/skin-air), where he was invited by Dr. Alexandros Kontogeorgakopoulos. Later on in 2018 they co-founded oneContiuousLab.

Metronom, which stands for metronome in Welsh, is a live audiovisual composition for a custom designed haptic interface. The interface consist of four haptic faders, and a digitally fabricated transparent acrylic structure, etched and cut according to the requirements of the music and the visual content. The performer interacts hapticaly with the moving faders, which behave like metronomes, at various tempi and rhythmic motifs. The faders' mechanical sounds are recorded and processed in real-time by digital signal processing algorithms and projected sonically back into space. Moreover the positions of the faders, driven by automated procedures and altered mechanically by the performer gestures, are controlling various compositional parameters affecting the timbre, the rhythm and the movement of various projected words and phrases.

A gradual interplay between the shadows of the physical interface's structure, the human gestures and the light refraction from the acrylic surfaces shapes equally the visual elements of the composition. The present inter-media performance, is an interactive audio-visual composition and a dance between the hands of the performer and the movements of the haptic interface.

Odysseas Klissouras [co-founder]
is an architect and artist, and co-founder of "A|TECTONICS experimental studio for architecture". His research interests derive from the development of expanded architecture and its infusion to soundscapes and local environments. His work ranges from abstract to material synthesis, from form to sound, from geometry to ametry, from word to movement, from air to rhythm, and from light to concrete mythoplastic topologies. His artistic work has been presented at Haus Kultur der Welt (HKW), Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe (ZKM), Jewish Museum Berlin, and at the local experimental scene of Berlin.

Haptic Fader is a force-feedback sliding potentiometer which offers a way of integrating the sense of touch into digital musical instruments and a more organic connection with electronic sound equipment. After years of academic and artistic research, the haptic fader was designed and developed for introducing musicians, sound artists, media artists, and interaction designers to haptics, a field which only very few institutions had access to before.

It is the only general-purpose cost-effective force-feedback device based on open-source hardware and open-source software elements for creative communities.
Dr. Edgar Berdahl and Dr. Alexandros Kontogeorgakopoulos, creators of the device and framework, have held talks and workshops on international conferences, Universities and for wider audiences such us at the Ableton’s Loop festival. Over the years, different versions of the device have been used in compositions and audio-visual performances in the US and Europe.

the makings of 01101110
a view behind the scenes of a light and sound installation, which echoes the simplest mathematical model of computation. A series of light paintings and sound depict the evolution of a one-dimensional cellular automaton - Rule 110 (or Rule 01101110), which is the simplest known Turing complete system. This means that it is capable of simulating any computer algorithm.

pique dame

A MIDI processing device has been implemented for the Arduino UNO board, in order to control and program the lights of The Black Cheetahs concerts directly from the drum machine of the musicians. This implementation automates the stage lighting, previously performed live on stage by Odysseas Klissouras. The device made its debut at the Black cheetahs concert at Ableton Live 10 Release Party - Berlin - March 2018, since then the device is used in all their concerts.

Waiting for Response is part of the light and sound installation res·o·nant created by Mischa Kuball for the Jewish Museum Berlin. “As an important element of the installation, several loudspeakers, distributed through the room loop a series of 60-second-long sound clips - so called Skits - which were composed specially for res·o·nant by more than 50 musicians.

Waiting for Response is a sound clip - Skit - which interacts directly with the acoustics of the space revealing and being revealed.
8 impulses were designed and placed on a timeline according to geometrical transformations created by the artists.

the movement of a trace begins with the hunt of a voice

In order to accommodate 20 people, the container was designed to expand and contract from 2,45 m to 4,70 m. Sheet metal was formed to serve as well a finishing surface and the structural main frame, achieving this way very small setup times (less than 30 sec). All furnishing, lighting system, door handles and locks are specially designed for the project.
